33rd Fighter Wing ACC Eglin AFB, Florida F-15C/D 'EG' 58th/59th/60th Fighter Squadrons

The 33rd Fighter Wing was formed at Roswell AFB, NM (later Walker AFB) in November 1947 with the F-51 and was redesignated a Fighter-Interceptor Wing in January 1950. The wing moved to Otis AFB, MA in November 1948 and inactivated in February 1952. The unit was redesignated 33rd Fighter Wing (Air Defense) and activated in October 1956 at Otis AFB with the F-89 and F-94, although it inactivated August 1957. The unit reformed in April 1965 as a Tactical Fighter Wing at Eglin AFB with the F-4, which was operated until 1979 when conversion to the F-15A commenced. The F-15C began replacing the F-15A in October 1984. The unit won the F-15 category in the 1984, 1986 and 1988 William Tell competitions at Tyndall AFB. The 58th TFS deployed to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia for Desert Storm, with 16 air-to-air kills being credited to the squadron. The unit changed designation to Fighter Wing late in 1991.
